A short history on WALGA and its predecessors.
It was the desire to have a truly representative, united voice for Local Government in WA that saw the launch of the Association in 2001.
Before this time, a number of membership-based representative structures existed, giving Western Australia a long and distinguished history in Local Government.
1894 Municipal Association formed
1898 Road Board Association formed
(predecessor to Country Shire Councils’ Association of WA)
1931 Country Urban Councils’ Association formed
1989 Western Australian Municipal Association (WAMA) formed
2001 6 December – WA Local Government Association launched
