Policy
One of the ways in which the WA Local Government Association supports Western Australia’s member Local Government bodies is to work in the area of policy development.
With an understanding of the needs of Local Government, the Association works on their behalf to draft and suggest policies on a number of key issues.
Each area has a number of priority issues and the Association focuses mainly on policies that relate to these particular issues.
Policy Teams are appointed by the Association President to work in our six key policy areas.
- Community & Development: Includes Building and Planning, Community services, Emergency Services, Linking Councils and Communities (LCC).
- Environment & Waste Management: Includes Natural Resource Management (NRM); Metropolitan Waste Advisory Council (MWAC); New WAter Ways; South West Biodiversity Project; Perth Biodiversity Project.
- Governance & Strategy: Local Government Act; Local Laws; Systemic Sustainability Study (SSS); State Council and Zone support.
- Infrastructure: Roads and infrastructure funding; Road Safety; RoadWise Program; Road Asset Management; Public Transport; Heavy Haulage; Aerodromes; Rail and Freight.
