Captivate - Local Participation for All

Captivate is an exciting and innovative project aimed at increasing the capacity of Local Government to develop and embed inclusive recreation practices.

The Project partners are: WALGA, WA Disabled Sport Association (WADSA), Recreation and Sport Network (RECNET), Cerebral Palsy Association (CPA WA) made possible with funding from the Disability Services Commission (DSC) and Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR).

This 18-month joint venture project has a three stage breakdown. Stage 1 involved documenting existing inclusive sport and recreation practices, noting the key features of those that are successful and those that have experienced difficulties. This was developed into a Literature Review and Environmental Scan.

The project’s second stage has been to write, design and produce an inclusion toolkit for local government sport and recreation facilities as well as the development of a training package, which will be provided alongside the Captivate Toolkit.

The third stage of the project will be to develop a policy framework and an evidence base to support increased funding and resources for inclusive recreation.
