Biodiversity Planners Network

One of the major threats to biodiversity in urban areas is clearing for housing and other types of development. Local Governments, therefore, have an important role to play in conserving local biodiversity through the land use planning process. Local biodiversity planning can help Local Governments integrate bushland and wetland protection into the design of new suburbs, and identify and formally protect natural areas that are viable in the long term.

To enable Local Government town planners and environmental planners to discuss ways to protect natural areas, and share their experiences and achievements in biodiversity planning and conservation, the Biodiversity Planners Network (BPN) was established by the Perth and South West Biodiversity Projects. Through the BPN, forums are organised to give planners the opportunity to be kept up to date on new biodiversity planning issues and processes as they emerged. For more information, please contact PBP Manager Renata Zelinova (rzelinova@walga.asn.au, 9213 2047).
