Local Government Biodiversity Planning Guidelines
Up one levelTo assist Local Government to strategically plan for the retention, protection and management of Perth's biodiversity, PBP has prepared the 'Local Government Biodiversity Planning Guidelines for the Perth Metropolitan Region'. The Guidelines were officially launched on the 29th June 2004 and provide Local Government with an understanding of the values of biodiversity in the Perth Metropolitan Region, and a methodology for preparing and implementing Local Biodiversity Strategies.
Local Governments can follow a four-phase local biodiversity planning process resulting in the preparation of a Local Biodiversity Strategy. This Strategy then guides the development of a local planning policy for biodiversity conservation; an action plan for managing biodiversity on Local Government land; a strategy to provide incentives for conservation on private land; and amendment of the local planning strategy and town planning scheme.
The whole document is over 300 pages long, so PDF files have been provided here for downloading sections of the Guidelines. Alternatively, hard copy versions of the Guidelines can be obtained from the Western Australian Local Government Association by completing an order form (see order form on list below). An addendum to Chapter 16 of the Guidelines was created in July 2007. This provides an update to Tables 17 to 25 in Chapter 16, and also includes new data, in Table A1, which compares Native Vegetation Extent in 2001 and 2005. The addendum is attached below. These Guidelines have been prepared as a working document, and the experiences gained by those using the Guidelines will be used to prepare updated editions. Comments and feedback are welcomed, and these will be considered immediately by the Perth Biodiversity Project to assist users of the Guidelines. To provide comment or feedback on the Guidelines, please email PBP using , pbp@walga.asn.au.
