Better Urban Water Management Workshop

Better Urban Water Management Workshop
12 Dec
12 Dec

The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage is undertaking a review of State planning policies associated with water resources and is combining SPPs 2.1, 2.9 and 2.10.
The Department has established a Stakeholder reference group to oversee the review and WALGA is represented on this reference group. Similarly to SPP 3.7 (Planning in Bushfire prone areas), it is proposed that the revised SPP will be accompanied by a set of guidelines and appendices which explain how the SPP is to be implemented. These guidelines will update the process and requirements outlined in Better Urban Water Management (BUWM) (WAPC, 2008).

The Department is seeking a greater level of input from local government on the review of Better Urban Water Management and so WALGA will be hosting this workshop session to scope key issues and possible solutions which will improve outcomes on the ground.

In the interim, the consultants would appreciate your comments on the following:
  • What elements of BUWM assist you to achieve good outcomes (which bits are good) - both process and content?
  • What elements of BUWM (both process and content) are barriers to good outcomes?
  • Are there any gaps in BUWM that should be included in the revised guideline?
  • What level of information would help improve outcomes on the ground?
  • Any other comments

Please send your responses to the above questions to by Friday, 16 November 2018.
The timelines of the review are quite tight as the draft SPP and guidelines are proposed to be released for public comment in March 2019.

Webinar is also available if you can’t make it in person. To register please follow the link.
